Releasing Your Inner Goblin Might Make You Feel Better

How’s your inner goblin today? Mine feels cranky and has a headache. A nice treat probably would make it feel better though. Wonder if I took Sam trick-or-treating if I’d get a lot of candy. I always wanted to scam a pillowcase full of chocolate bars when I was a kid; didn’t like the hard candies. Taffies weren’t bad, but if I had to suck on something rather than chew it, forget it.

What is your inner goblin like?

Ladies, remember the song “Witchy Woman?” She had the moon in her eyes and she could rock you all night long? The song was written by Don Henley and Bernie Leadon and was recorded by the Eagles.

According to Wikipedia – my trusty source for unimpeachable knowledge – “While the inspiration for the title and lyrics was based on various women they had met and remembered as seductive enchantresses, Henley had Zelda Fitzgerald particularly in mind after reading her biography. The muse and sometimes genius behind her well-published author husband F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda was known as wild, bewitching and mesmerizing and was the quintessential Flapper.”

But guys, what about you? What’s your inner goblin? Hopefully not “A Boy Named Sue.” You’re more of the “Desperado” type don’t you think? How about “Running Bear,” or a “One-eyed, one-horned flying purple people eater?” Hopefully your inner goblin isn’t Machine Gun Kelly or one of those bad boys.

Hey! How ‘bout “Papa Was a Rolling Stone?”

Again, according to my indisputable information source Wikipedia, “Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" is a psychedelic soul song, written by Motown songwriters Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong as a single for the Motown act The Undisputed Truth in 1971.This version of "Papa" was released as a single in early 1972 and peaked at number 63 on the pop charts and number 24 on the R&B charts.

“Later in 1972, Whitfield, who also produced the song, took "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" and remade it as a 12-minute record for The Temptations, which was a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and won three Grammy Awards in 1973. While the original Undisputed Truth version of the song has been largely forgotten, The Temptations' version of the song has been an enduring and influential soul classic.”

Getting back to you ladies Sam and I hope you aren’t “A Restless Wind” born to wander or a wind called Mariah.

“Mariah blows the stars around
And sends the clouds a’flyin’
Maria makes the mountains sound
Like folks were up there dying.”

Remember that song? It was written by Alan J. Lerner and Frederick Loewe for the Broadway musical “Paint Your Wagon.”

It’s just about the time of year to let our inner goblins loose. Maybe that’s why I’m feeling so restless and cranky, I gotta’ get out there and prowl. My inner goblin is a Blue Moon Wolf – pretty rare and wonderful. I’m a good wolf who likes to howl at the moon, dress in cheaps clothing and act all swave and deboner.

Trick or treat you ghouls and goblins!
